The Westtek ClearVue Suite viewers let you see Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents on your Pocket PC without changes to the file format or modifying document formatting.

Gotchas · 340KB system storage space is used by two sample files. Delete or move these files if you need to recover some system storage space · You are asked if you want to turn off Desktop to Device (Pocket PC) conversion settings for Microsoft Office file formats during the installation procedure. You need to remember this and change the conversion settings back to the original state if you want to copy files from the desktop PC to the Pocket PC for editing on the Pocket PC. · Some formatting is not displayed. For example: headers, footers, footnotes, and comments. However, Westtek reports that they plan to support some of these formatting features in a near future ClearVue version. · Attempting to view a slideshow of a few dozen 2 mega-pixel digital photographs with file sizes ranging from 450KB to 650KB produced an error message warning me that the ClearVue Image Viewer could not allocate enough memory to proceed. However, tapping OK to acknowledge and clear the warning allowed me to proceed with the slideshow.

Westtek ClearVue Suite Components The Westtek ClearVue Suite consists of four viewers:
· ClearVue Document Viewer (Figure 1) · ClearVue Worksheet Viewer (Figure 2) · ClearVue Presentation Viewer (Figure 3) · ClearVue Image Viewer (Figure 4)
The Document, Worksheet, and Presentation viewers let you see Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on your Pocket PC without any conversion process or formatting loss. This means that you can see:
· Tables and images in Word documents · Charts/graphs in Excel spreadsheets · PowerPoint slides without any conversion process
The Image viewer allows you to see individual BMP, JPG, or PNG image files or slideshows of these files.

ClearVue Suite Features All the viewers let you zoom in and out for optimal document viewing on a Pocket PC. The Presentation viewer lets you see PowerPoint slides in a number of different ways including slide sorter view (with thumbnail images), slide notes, and landscape. The Presentation viewer also supports two popular external display adapters to let you perform PowerPoint presentations directly from the Pocket PC. The Image viewer provides a variety of viewing options including display order sorting (name, type, size, date), image orientation, zoom level, and wipes/transitions.
Conclusion The Westtek ClearVue Suite provides a single packaged product to view fully formatted Microsoft Office documents on a Pocket PC. If you need to display Office documents on your Pocket PC without display formatting loss, you should consider this suite. It is important to remember though that the Suite’s viewers are just that: Viewers. You cannot modify what you see on the Pocket PC. That task needs to be performed on a desktop or notebook PC. |
