  • MyFord Mobile iPhone app for the all-electric Ford Focus

    Apple’s iPhone app catch phrase, there’s an app for that, will soon apply to the all-electric Ford Focus car too. Ford’s video demo embedded above demonstrates some of the app’s features. It works with the Ford SYNC technology built into the car itself.

    The app will feature social networking components, charge station location information, navigation, remote control of the car (start, pre-warm, etc.), driving and braking profiles, and more.

    Ford’s Manager for Product and Business Development – Ford Connected Services – Bill Frykman demonstrated the app on an iPhone. He noted during the demo that it would also be available for Android and BlackBerry too. I found it interesting that he did not mention support for Windows Phone too sinc the Ford SYNC technology in the Ford Focus (and other Ford cars) is based on Microsoft Windows Embedded.

  • Thumbs up for Entertainment Weekly for iPad app

    The Entertainment Weekly for iPad app launched recently. Like other Time, Inc. e-magazines, it is a free app with the option to purchase EW for $4.99 per issue. However, if you have a subscription to the magazine’s paper edition, it just takes a minute or two to set up the online iPad subscription at no additional cost.

    If you have tried the TIME magazine or other apps from the firm, you already know how to use the app. I should note that the interface has improved a lot since the early days of the iPad when it was a very disappointing experience.

  • PostSecret iPhone app pulled. Podcast discussion w/Frank Warren about the app in 2011

    CNET’s Michelle Meyers reported that the PostSecret iPhone app was pulled out of the app store.

    I had wondered earlier if the open nature of the app (compared to the more closed controlled situation for the physical postcards that the PostSecret site had been based on) would cause any issue. It is a shame that this happened. PostSecret is an amazing and unique site.

  • Apps updated for my iPhone & iPad in the past week: 7

    The last week of the calendar year is always a slow one for app updates because Apple, for the most part, shuts down during that week. Still, seven apps updates showed up for my devices.

  • Action Movie FX: Add explosions, car crashes & more to your iPhone video recordings

    Action Movie FX is a free iPhone app that can add action to any video you record using an iPhone or iPad 2. It comes with two effects (missile strike and car crash). Additional effects bundles are available for 99 cents each.

    Video clips need to be at least five seconds long. You can choose where the effect should start in the clip. Clips with effects can be shared directly via Facebook or email. You can also save the clip to the iPhone’s photo album. I added the title in the clip embedded above using Apple iMovie for iOS.

    The app appears to be some kind of tie-in to the Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol that just opened.

    So, there you go. This app can add a bit of action to any of your New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day video clips.

  • Steinway Etude for iPad sheet music app now works with AirTurn Bluetooth page turner

    If you want to use digital sheet music instead of paper, Steinway’s free iPad app provides a good solution.
