I’m joined by guest co-host and frequent guest panelist Sven Johannsen for this podcast. We discussed some of our favorite 2023 gadgets as well as a few disappointments. We start, however, with a few other items.
- Dave’s Garage interview with Raymond Chen
The Minds Behind Windows: Raymond Chen - Apple extends Emergency SOS via satellite for an additional free year for existing iPhone 14 users
- Replaced flickering Echo Show 5 (1st gen) with a 2nd gen Echo Show 8. Under $50 and “good enough”
- Amazed by the low prices of some GaN chargers. $30 for a 140W. $22 for a very compact 65W
- Tried a vertical laptop stand and learned that I should have gotten one years ago
- Tried a low-priced ($20) mini-soundbar for my PC. Very impressed
- Got an external Blu-ray drive for legacy content and discovered Windows can’t do anything with those discs without third party software
- Since buying the Anker 551 USB-C stand/dock that Sven recommended to me a year ago, I’ve gotten a few other combo stand/docks. Really nice variety available a year later
- Google Pixel Tablet (current reduce price of $399)
- Pixel Fold ($1399, from $1799)
- BougeRV Car fridge
- KASA Smart home products
- Leviton Model D24SF for fans
- ThruNite EDC Flashlight Archer Mini
- Canon EOS T7
- Microsoft 365 Family subscription
- Sven’s wish list: Osmo Pocket 3 and DJI Mini 4 Pro
