Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 software update delivered 2012.05.06

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has only been available in the U.S. for two weeks. However, it already has a software update available. I woke up this morning to see this notice on my device after powering on its display. It is not clear what the update brings. However, Samsung’s notice states: Software and Stability improvements included. The Tab 2 7.0 has not had any issues in the 9 days I’ve been using it. So, I’m not sure what stability issues it addresses. I should note that the device’s apparent stability is a welcome change from the Honeycomb based Tab 10.1 which saw either an Android subsystem (like the windows manager) or apps crash several times a day.

You can find my review of this tablet at BYTE. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2: The First Must-Have Android Tablet

You can see other screen photos of today’s Tab 2 7.0 update process below.

You can take a screenshot by pressing the volume down and the power button at the same time.

Since my update I’ve been having a red border, maybe 1/2 thick, that randomly will fash briefly. I don’t know if this has anything to do with the update. Besides a factory reset, is there away to uninstall software update??

My GT 2 7.0 just updated last night as well… AND NOW after choosing time/date it goes to the Google Account screen and every time says “unfortunately, google account cannot be loaded” (or similar, I don’t have it with me at the moment). But I CANNOT get past that screen.

Am I going to be stuck doing a factory reset? This really sucks and is bad programming. Not very impressed.

It updated from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 now it runs the same ics as my phone. The bookmarks are much better organized and it has a new keyboard which is cool. Haven’t found much else except my name shows up now on the lockscreen

I received the samesoftware update notice 2 days ago and did the update. I called Samsung tech support after noticing major changes and the customer service rep did not know anything about this and neither did anyone he asked. He gave me a tracking number and said someone from the remote tech dept. would contact me. I noticed 2 new apps, a new keyboard and some other updates. Did you get the same? I just want to be sure it came from Samsung.

Have not noticed any new features or performance enhancement. Do not know if this is a side effect of the update, but… If you dismiss a calendar event on the lock screen (assuming you have a PIN set), dismissing the event passes to the desktop where you can perform one or two activities before being sent back to the lock screen for the PIN. Looks like a security hole to me.

Browser did a lot of random closes, and accounts would stop syncing at random. Don’t know if the patch addressed this yet though…

Curious if you noticed anything new with the update? Performance? Software Enhancements? I just checked and no update being reported on my galaxy tab 2 7.
