This started out as a quick note about the m.YP.com Yellow Pages website formatted to be mobile browser friendly. But, it turned out to be a post about what looks like a little search engine issue over there. I tested it searching for the word dogs in areas that are familar to me. However, I didn’t get many useful results (though the results I got were on target). Then, I tried the search you see in the image above. And, well, the result was pretty weird. If anyone from YP.com would care to comment, I’m sure a few people besides myself would be interested to learn how your search engine decided on this result.

im did business with them with the understanding that they were the online version of the yellow pages. (they work real hard to give this impression) they posted my ad early (which i was excited about) but… they didnt have my business number yet so they posted a fake local number that gets forward to my cellphone. I sell merchandise through a catalog. i need customers to order the catalog. who wants to order the catalog from some guy on a cell phone.
second issue. the ad doesnt say what i do. no mention of the catalog, how to order, or what we sell. why should i pay for an ad that doesnt advertise? i tried to cancel. my sales rep told me no. i wont pay. they wont take the ad down.
I got bill from yp.com for 199.75 . They claimed that I ordered services in April 2008 and have to pay 39.95 for each month. Total scam! I never ordered any services from YP and I didn’t know about their existance. In fact, they listed adress where I don’t live for more than a year, website which is not online since 2005, and my cell phone which I never use for business!
I made complaints to Internet Crime Complaint Center, FBI crime report, Federal Trade Comission, Better Business Bureau, and Consumer Affairs. After this they removed all charges, deleted my business (which doesn’t exist from 2005 !!!), and never called me again. I suggest everyone to do the same.
I keep getting invoices from YP.COM, never ordered their services, never pay the bill. Have sent bill back with comment that I DO NOT OWE THEM ANYTHING, yet their billing continues! The information they show for my company is simply taken from another online ad that I did pay for… which has my business name misspelled… that was corrected after the initial couple of months of online activity. I have NEVER had ANY contact with ANYONE with YP.COM! I am not going to EVER PAY THIS OUTFIT ONE SINGLE DIME… NOR AM I GOING TO GET AN ATTORNEY TO FIGHT THIS CRAP!!!
Do not list your business with YP.COM. If you change your mind and lose your CXL number they will tell you you never canceled it and EXPECT you to pay in full BEFORE they will terminate your account. Google them under complaints and look at ALL the lawsuits and filings they have against them. I work in the event business AND have SUPPLIERS world wide. I will make sure that NONE of them advertise with YP.COM. I called to to cancel my account for a second time because I couldn’t remember if I had done so. I was told by the YP.COM Customer Rep that I had already canceled it and not to worry – WRONG – I got an invoice from them and they want payment before they’ll cancel my account – I have a different business with a different name… why would I advertise a company that is no longer doing business????
and we have never ever acted as yellowpages.com or played ourselves off to be the services that we provide are far more defined than yellow pages. we actually advertiseour customers insted of ouselves. oh yeah and as for the comments on the bbb. lady weve been in business since 1994. we have 35 complaints. no comeon lady 14 years 35 complaints… you do the math…
I am actually an internet marketing consultant and i work for yp.com.
The reason that the results that you may have gotten may have not been as relevant as they could be is because yp,com is still in the startup phaze. Meaning that everything doesnt always work the way it it is supoposed to. Go ahead and try that search again and im pretty sutre that all ypour question will be answered. As well as for “dogs” you would look in the classifield section of the directory not the yellow page part. So you see reading is fundemental!!!!

Just wanted to let you know that YP.com is NOT the *real* Yellow Pages. YP.com rips people off by making customers think they are the real Yellow Pages. Just look them up on the Better Business Bureau. The actual page you want is yellowpages.com.
